Randy Pausch interview

A lot of professors give talks titled “The Last Lecture.” Professors are asked to consider their demise and to ruminate on what matters most to them. And while they speak, audiences can’t help but mull the same question: What wisdom would we impart to the world if we knew it was our last chance? If we had to vanish tomorrow, what would we want as our legacy?

When Randy Pausch, a computer science professor at Carnegie Mellon, was asked to give such a lecture, he didn’t have to imagine it as his last, since he had recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer. But the lecture he gave–”Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams”–wasn’t about dying. It was about the importance of overcoming obstacles, of enabling the dreams of others, of seizing every moment (because “time is all you have…and you may find one day that you have less than you think”). It was a summation of everything Randy had come to believe. It was about living.

You need to feel comfortable with who you are, which implies taking care of yourself and maintaining your friendships. It also means trying to see the good parts even in difficult situations.

Music and Synchronicity-How can music boost your awareness

“Synchronicity is the coming together of inner and outer events in a way that cannot be explained by cause and effect and that is meaningful to the observer”. – Carl Jung

SynchronicityIf you want to observe synchronicity more closely into your life, I have a little experiment for you. This will cost you some money, but if you can afford it, it may be worth it for the endless hours of mind-growth, amazement and guidance, if you are receptive and open-minded to it.

Try to find a reasonably priced 1-3 GB mp3 player (depending on the size of your collection). After buying an mp3 player, place all of your CDs in it and put it on “shuffle” or “random.”

If you are open and receptive to the concept of synchronicity, you will eventually be able to notice how the music that is playing will often correspond with what your are doing, thinking, or feeling.

Key Points in Effective Time Management

time managementHow often do you find yourself complaining about having too many things to do and not enough time to do it in, or having to be in more places at the same time, and simply not having enough time?

We all spend our time doing all sorts of activities, yet we fail to realize that in fact there is so little we do achieve in the end, only because we are not concentrating on what we should, on the right things.

The Pareto Principle, also know as the “80:20 Rule”, comes to reinforce this, as it argues that little more than 80% of our unfocused effort is likely to generate only 20% of results. What remains, (80% of results) is achieved with how much effort do you think? Only 20%!

Synchronicity Why should you care about it?

synchronicityHave you ever experienced an unusual event happening exactly at a meaningful time and wondered if it was an answer to your prayer?

Coincidence is rarely mere meaning that two or more situations or events happening at the same time are likely to have something in common. Synchronicities are specific patterns that repeat over time. The word ’synchronicity’ actually ascribes the time mechanisms, though the actual concept of synchronicity cannot be scientifically proven. We can only record synchronicities as they occur and by observing the types of behavior that create these unusual events.
