Self confidence definitely something that can be gained but the main problem is that most people are afraid to push themselves outside their comfort zone in order to grow.

Things like toastmasters have been around for years yet people are afraid to attend out of fear of being bested by long term members, not realizing that nearly every single member came from a similar place of lacking self confidence and speaking ability.

All you really need to build self confidence is the right attitude of "im going to push my comfort zone and grow", and it cannot possibly come from external factors like how much praise you get because its *self* confidence meaning its built from within.

Hi,
The information on Self Confidence is quite interesting. Self-confidence is about believing in and liking yourself. It is being optimistic, assertive, taking personal responsibility, and being at ease with other people. Confidence to do a work generally means strong feeling from the inner part of your heart and mind that you can do that work easily. Confidence is built from success and what you learn from failure. :)

Once I discovered that the secret to self-confidence was all in the mind, my life changed. I no longer worried about how people would react to me. O focused on my belief about my self. Was I giving my best? Did I believe in my abilities? Did I feel confident about what I was saying? If the answer was no, I worked on myself until I could get that answer to change to a yes. Once it did, there were no limits to what I could do.

Hi Im Lee. I am in the process of gaining back my 'self confidence'.I believed in what someone else had told me and took it as true, only to wake up one day and realise that what they had said was based on jelousy and their own insecurities! But for years i have carried their words with me as a truth and it has affected my life in so many ways. Now i am working on regaining my self respect and confidence and changing my life! i would love to read more about self confidence and learn from others also. i would also like to share my journey on my personal blog.

Self confident people take risks and view the outcomes as blessings, challenges, and learning experiences (sometimes all 3 wrapped into one). Unconfident people avoid taking "chances" because they would rather live within the realm of the known. Confidence, translates from the Latin phrase "with fidelity" and is nothing more than acting in accordance with one's beliefs, be they positive or negative. If you are negative, you are merely confident in the opposite outcome of what you desire. Very easy to change, it's simply a matter of choice.
