“Inner happiness is the fuel of success“
What is it that makes us really happy? Does happiness bring us everything we want? Is it money, celebrity, passionate relationships, a good health that makes us happy? Regardless of your ideas of happiness, researchers have found that negative thoughts play a major part in being unhappy.
Most people probably don’t know what happiness is, for most of them happiness is all about having a lot of money or a big house, or even a fancy car… But guess what… those who already have all these are not necessarily happier than people who enjoy each moment in their life.
But how can we say what happiness really is? Happiness is a feeling of comfort and inner peace. We usually experience this feeling when we have no worries, obsessing thoughts and fears and we are happy with how things are.
This usually happens when we do something that we really enjoy doing, or when we receive, gain, win or buy something that it’s important to us. So, happiness seems to be the outcome of positive events, but the real source of happiness is inside us, triggered by external events.
Here are some practical tips for increasing happiness in everyday life:
- Change your perspective of looking at things. Always look at the bright side of everything. The mind may drag into thinking of negative and difficult things also. But don’t let it. Reject your negative thoughts before they put hold on you. Try to see the good and positive side of every situation.
- Think in terms of finding solutions, not creating problems.
- Listen to relaxing music that can bring your spirit high.
- Watch funny comedies that make you laugh and relax your mind.
- Each day, allow yourself some time to reading a couple of pages from an inspiring book or article.
- Learn to control your thoughts. Whenever you catch yourself thinking negative thoughts, force yourself into thinking of more pleasant things.
- Always observe and evaluate the things you have done rather than feeling bad about what you haven’t accomplished. Sometimes you may start your day by planning to accomplish some goals, but at the end of the day you might feel frustrated because you haven’t been able to do all the things you wanted. This can definitely bring you down. Perhaps you’ve spent your entire day completing other tasks, but not what you initially planned and instead of feeling happy and contented, you are frustrated and unhappy.
- Do something nice for yourself each day. It can be something small, like buying a book, having your favorite dish for dinner, watching you favorite TV program, going to see a movie, or just a lovely walk in the park.
- Each day try doing at least one thing to make someone happy. It can be a good word said at the right time, helping your colleague, ceding your seat in a bus to someone older, or giving a small present to someone you love. Bringing a smile on someone’s face makes you feel good about yourself, and people will try to make you happy in return.
- Always be ready to welcome happiness into your life.
- Don’t be jealous on someone else’s happiness. Instead, be happy for them.
- Stay around happy and successful people, and try to learn from them how to be happy.
- Do your best to remain detached, when things seem to become overwhelming. A detached attitude will help you stay calm and control your moods and reactions. Being detached doesn’t mean you are indifferent, but rather the acceptance of the good and the bad times. Detachment has much to do with inner peace, and inner peace is the best way to happiness.
- Smile as often as you can.
Happiness comes from the inside. Just keep your mind relaxed and happiness will come. Don’t wait for it to come, go for it. Find ways to bring it into your life. A calm and relaxed mind is the gate towards true happiness. It is all up to you to be and feel happy.
