The Learning, but not doing Syndrome

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

It’s really important to realize that the real purpose of knowledge is action!

It’s great to be able to learn new/cool things all the time, but if we never apply this information, it’s no use learning after all. Sometimes, learning is used as an excuse – you can say that you are actually doing something. But the truth that without action you simply won’t get the results that you are really after when learning it in the first place.

Work is unnecessary

Just talking is not enough, and so is sitting in a classroom or trying to learn something just by looking at it won’t get you anywhere. Other people give up because they don’t think that working is really important, while others become quickly bored of whatever they are trying to learn.

Getting bored

Many people start different projects, and at the half of road they just quit, because their motivation suddenly disappears and become disinterested because they realize that what they are doing is simply too boring.

People are lazy and hasty

And there may be another reason for learning but not doing, and that is that some people are lazy. They want programs that promise to make them achieve all their goals in no time and with no effort. And when they see it doesn’t work that way, they simply give up.

Persistence means a lot of hard work. Giving up is easy. Most will choose the easy path and give up before they can see the results of their work. In the beginning we all start fresh, we work hard, but as time goes by, our interest in the project becomes lower and lower and we find ways to reduce our workload.

My personal experience has taught me that if I work hard at the beginning, and not giving up no matter the difficulties, in time my pursuits are starting to pay off.
An addictive escape from your reality

Learning can be used as an excuse for not doing something else. Another way to escape from reality is to read things that can be useful for you, but only if you apply them. For example: reading about healthy food, or time management, about weight loss exercises and so on. There are so much wonderful and positive information in the books.

Waiting until you know everything

Another face of procrastination and delaying to apply what you learn is saying that you must study hard and much, so that you don’t have to make the mistakes out there in the world. You can’t avoid failures and making mistakes. But you don’t even have to be perfect. Instead, just make the first step. And if you fail is ok, learn from what went wrong and try again.

Now, I’m not saying you should stop reading. Providing your mind with new thoughts and ideas helps you discover new habits, achieve new skills and expend your knowledge. But don’t put too much time into reading. You may have the false idea that, by reading about a certain topic that you are most interested in, you’ll be moving ahead.

The key is TAKING ACTION

In the beginning you get excited, feeling that you are improving, but after a while you may get disappointment when you realize that things haven’t changed at all. Reading may give you the feeling that you are getting closer to your goal, but this is just a false impression.

Without any action from you, you will never get on the right track and achieve your goals. Try applying everything that you read into your behavior; try out as many new ideas as possible – experiment. Combine learning with action and see the results. More and more you will realize what works for you and you will be able to change some things and improve your methods. Information is worthless if you can’t apply it and put it to use.

    Dear Victoria,

I agree, there is such a thing as procrastination born of not doing, and yet, within that situation is also a very subtle fine line where you are not doing yet because you are waiting for “right time”. I feel that in taking action you have to invoke right use of will for you to experience ease and grace in your decisions and choices becoming action into results.

There is also not being ready yet!! Recognising that is gold.

If you are so in need of action and results as a measure of success and you don’t see the success of inner transformaiton first, as within so without!!, and you are not acknowledging just how much is happening on the inside you can be pushing up against insurmountable blocks and barriers that taint and sully your efforts, I think that that’s how the belief in “hard work” was born, when we as humans used force of will against universal powers far greater than our little ego, first you have to learn how to become at one with the all that is and so it’s not quite as clear cut as that!! yes you are right, action and then stopping to look listen and learn to feel your impact in the universe before your next step is great too!!!

Sometimes doing nothing and waiting is procrastination, and sometimes it is wisdom. Intuition tells us when and the difference is when that moment comes and then you can feel, taste, smell and touch the NOW of it, and when you act in that moment, synergistically everything comes together and moves with you, for you and the synchronicity just blows you away as everything falls into the lap of the gods, as of course you are one too.

Thankyou for your efforts out into the universe.

Also………..action for a man based in his physical/mental dimension is different to what it is for a woman who most powerfully exists within the spiritual/emotional realm, together men and women are awesome but what is action for one isn’t for the other. We are meant to work as a team, and if he takes care of the mental/physical she can invoke the magical spiritual/emotional which is the most powerful way we humans with our little egos can make manifestation work for us, he is attached, she is detached. He is focussed, she is connected!! interesting stuff. He goes after as she lets go.

    Cheers Ursula
