Do you find yourself overwhelmed by the large number of projects you have to complete or the severity of these projects? Do you feel the day goes by without you focusing enough on each task because other tasks show up, or because you can’t get yourself organized?
Perhaps you know that effective time management will help you get more things done each day. It has also many important health benefits, as well. By managing your time more carefully, you can reduce stress and improve your quality of life.
But will you get back on track when time management skills don’t come naturally? For starters, just pick one of these time-management tips, try it for two to four weeks and see if it helps. If it does, consider trying another one too. If not, try a different one.
• Plan your day
Planning your day may help you feel more in control of you life. You can create a “To-Do” list, putting the most important tasks on top. Keep track of your daily activities to reduce the tension and last minute rushes.
• Prioritize your assignments
Like many people, you may be spending the majority of your time on a small percentage of your tasks. Prioritizing will ensure you spend your time and energy on those that are truly important to you.
• Say NO to unimportant tasks
Consider your goals and schedule before deciding to take on extra work.
• Delegate
Examine your “To-Do” list and think of the tasks you can cut off or pass on to someone else.
• Take the time you need to do quality work
Completing tasks right the first time may take more time upfront, but errors usually occur in the time spent making corrections, which takes more time overall.
• Break large, time-wasting jobs into smaller tasks
Work on them a couple of minutes at a time until you get them all done.
• Apply the 10-minute method
Work on a less exciting task for 10 minutes each day. Once you get yourself started, you may find that you can actually complete it.
• Analyze how you’re spending your time
Keep a journal of all the things you do for three days to see how you’re actually spending your time. Find time that you can use more wisely.
• Get lots of sleep and do your exercise
Higher focus will boost your productivity and you will finish your tasks in less time.
• Allow yourself a break when you need it
Too much stress can block your efforts at getting organized. When you need a break, just allow yourself one. Take a walk or do some quick stretches at your work place. You can even take a day off from the office.
